Prior to practicing as an attorney, Hon. Joshua Y. Chang served as a District Court judge, with specialization in criminal and civil matters, and Intellectual Property (IP) Rights, for nearly ten (10) years. Mr. Chang was sponsored and designated as a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School in 2002-2003, and a visiting research fellow at Columbia Law School in 2003. He was also a visiting scholar at the Law School of Peking University in 2005-2006. From 2006-2007, Joshua participated in the Program of Instruction for Lawyers at Harvard Law School.

Since 2003, Hon. J. Chang has been certified as a Professional IP Law Judge in Taiwan for his expertise in IP rights. Hon. J. Chang has also written several books related to patent litigation, published numerous articles, conducted numerous lectures and speeches, and provided legal opinions on a variety of issues related to technology law and IP law.

Hon. J. Chang is currently a managing partner of Dunamis, Terata, & Semeion, Attorneys-At-Law (Taipei, Taiwan). He serves a number of hi-tech clients in Taiwan, China and throughout Asia, along with the following highlighted experiences:

  • Serving as an administrative, civil and criminal trial lawyer;
  • Providing counseling and evaluation of IP rights (patents, copyrights, trademarks) and obligations in a due diligence context;
  • Advising on, and drafting and negotiating, licenses and cross-licenses of IP rights involving technology and related assets;
  • Protecting inventions, trade secrets, and proprietary information through confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements;
  • Evaluating infringement allegations, and representing clients in IP litigations, including patent and trademark litigations;
  • Identifying and pursuing infringers, providing legal opinions, planning and executing intellectual property strategies, especially patent and trademark enforcement strategies; and
  • Representing clients in negotiating issues related to international disputes.


Prior to entering the legal profession as an attorney, Mr. Chang served as a distinguished Judge in Taiwan. He has been admitted as the Attorney and patent agent, obtained certificates in IP and patent engineering, and received training in negotiation strategies while enrolled at Harvard law School.
